Resizing Images

Formating an image requires the following operations.

To resize and image, the user only needs to specify three values (aspect, size and resolution). Each of these values can be entered numerically or set with a single click/select from popup menus that include standard settings and values calculated from the input image and printer settings.

Using the resize management popup menu, a single click will set all three values for standard outputs and printer settings.

As the image is cropped (rotated, magnified and translated) the output image specifications are maintained, if possible.

Resize Popup Menus

There are 4 popup menus in the Resize and Crop Controls. For most concievable requirements, these menus can set the required values in 1 to 3 clicks. For other requirements, the numerical values can be directly entered.

Orientation

There are 6 orientation buttons with the following functions

  • Set Panaramic Mode. If the aspect ratio is less than 1.00, it is set to the reciprocal.
  • Set Portrait Mode. If the aspect ratio is greater than 1.00, it is set to the reciprocal.
  • Flip Image Horizontally
  • Flip Image Vertically
  • Rotate Image Clockwise and switch Panoramic/Portrait Mode
  • Rotate Image Counterclockwise and switch Panoramic/Portrait Mode

Resize Technology Issues

There are three very important technical issues when images are resized.

  • Anti-aliasing filters
  • Interpolation
  • Noise suppression

If these are not done correctly, the images may have jagged edges, moire patterns and excessive noise.

ColorBender automatically applies highly optimized filters and interpolators. These filters are calculated when an image is first opened so there will be no delays later when the user changes the aspect ratio, size or resolution.
