Adjusting Tone
Adjusting Tone requires 8 directions of adjustment. These 8 directions are shown in the following diagram for which the 5/10 tone is adjusted.
If you can't adjust tone in all 8 directions, you may not be able to achieve the correction needed. Most applications adjust tone in only two or four of these directions.

The eight tone adjustment directions are given the following names. These are the names used for ColorBender tone adjustments.

ColorBender's Tone Adjustment Capabilities
The ColorBender Tone adjustment capabilities are:
- Adjust Color Tone in all 8 directions
- Apply adjustments to any set of colors and/or image regions
- No color clipping
- No color (hue) shifting
- No neutral shifting
- High precision calculations (avoids color posterization)
How to adjust Color Tone with ColorBender
On the adjustment panel, shown below, click the Popup Menu (shown here with the Brightness selected).

On the popup menu, slide the cursor down to one of the 4 color tone axes (entries 7 to 10).

Then, while watching the image, adjust the slider to the desired amount.
If you wish to adjust tone for only certain colors and image locations, use the selector buttons to define the colors and regions. Details about using the selectors are here: Selectors.
For the following control settings example, tones are adjusted 37% lighter for the red, green, and yellow colors in the upper right image quad.

Examples of the 8 Tone Direction Adjustments
The following array shows the original image and the 8 tone adjustment directions described above. While this shows the basic capability, in practice, you would probably select the sky (blue and cyan), adjust the tone, and then the tree and grass (green and yellow) and adjust their tone.

whiter lighter brighter

grayer original more vivid

blacker darker deeper
Example of the 8 Tone Directions using Region and Color Selectors
This example shows adjusting tone of only the eyes. It took only 6 clicks to isolate the eyes and 4 click/selects and 8 slider adjustments to process the complete set of 9 images below.
To selectively adjust a particular object, you need to find a combination of regions and colors that are unique to that object. In this case, the only blue & cyan objects are the eyes and the blue toy on the left and they can be separated by their location. Thus, we set the selectors to the following pattern and make the tone adjustments.

whiter lighter brighter

grayer original more vivid

blacker darker deeper
